Interview with Lieutenant Roo, Professor of Medicine, Lotus Fleet

Where are you from:

Warwick, England

When did you join Lotus Fleet:

27 May 2009

Favorite Star Trek series and/or movie:

Voyager.  I'm sure I tell everyone that... (: It was the first series I saw, so I've grown kind of attached to the characters, and I've got to learn a lot about the different relationships between them, which on first glance, you probably wouldn't pick up.

The movie... the last one. It's the only one I've had a chance to watch all the way through, shamefully! D: it's what drew me to Star Trek in the first place, and what attracted my attention. Also, it drew me to Lotus Fleet (:

Favorite Star Trek Captain:

You've probably guessed, but Janeway (: she just.. she kicked ass! she didn't take 'censored' from anyone, and she treated her crew more like a family than the others, I felt, which I think was very important considering how far they all were from their own families.

Favorite Star Trek ship:

Prometheus is easily my favorite class of starship (: I think... It's a tough choice, but I think I’ll have to go with that!

Favorite Star Trek character:

I have quite a few, to be honest. The Doctor, I think if I had to pick just one, would have to be my ultimate favorite (:

Favorite Star Trek uniforms:

I like the uniform in the later DS9 episodes more so than others. I think they look more streamlined and clean cut than the others...

Which actor would you kick out of Star Trek:

Sorry, I’m thinking! That’s a hard question! I don't dislike anyone too much, really..  Katherine Pulaski ( or something similar to that, my spelling isn't good )
She’s really, really annoying o.o

What is the story behind your name:

It's just a nickname I've picked up over time, really.. Nothing special!

Give us your opinion of the Chain of Command in Lotus Fleet:

I think the chain of command is a good idea, as a whole (: in the time I’ve been here, it seems to be getting used much more appropriately, and has worked out most of the kinks in its practice (:

How do you spend your time within the Fleet:

Doing what’s required by my job, talking nonsense in the shout box and occasionally cranking out a post lol :D

Is there anything you would like to change in the current structure:

Honestly, no! I think LF is one of only a small percentage of places which work well and has managed to stand the test of time, as well as capture the attention and hearts of a lot of people of all ages.

Do you have any siblings:

Yes, two older brothers (:

Do they share your passion for Star Trek:

Nope, not at all! (rofl) they both think I’m a total nerd and, quite frankly, are correct.

What has drawn you to Lotus Fleet:

Originally, it was just Jamie's influence, though I had already seen from looking around what a well organized and innovative fleet it was. I slowly became ever so slightly addicted within my first weeks at the academy, and soon I was there of my own accord (: I valued it's structure and solidarity within the members, as well as the fact I would have a chance to be part of a HUGE community of people who shared similar interests to me (:

What does Lotus Fleet mean to you:

It’s a place where I can feel at home with people who're just like me! As I’ve said, my family haven't even got a slight interest in star trek, and nor do my friends, so it's nice to be able to come somewhere which has such a close-knit community of people who enjoy the same things (:

Where do you see Lotus Fleet in five years:

Ooh, huge! Massive! I see there being members even more widely spread than they are not, as well as continuing to be a close community full of avid trek fans (: and a thoroughly loved forum for STO :P

Where do you see yourself in five years:

Hmm, fresh out of university, hopefully with a job or on the way to getting a job within a primary school, as well as settling down properly with Jamie (:

Biggest fear/phobia:

I’m scared of a lot of things, but I think my biggest would be failure. I’m the kind of girl who’d rather fail without trying than try my best and still fail miserably.

Your passion in life:

Helping people. Particularly, young people, to learn and better themselves, as well as giving them recognition for what they're doing well along the way.

Highlight in your life:

Falling in love.

One thing nobody knows about you:

That’s suitable for lotus fleet? XD Errmm.. Let me think…  I care about people more than I let on most of the time.

Describe yourself in 5 words:

Tall , clumsy , dorky , clever  andddd friendly (:

Do you have a motto? A quote, to share:

" We are all equal in the amount of evil and beauty we are capable of producing "

Advice for new members:

Just have fun! Get as involved as you can, because you never know what sort of great opportunity or good friend you'll miss (: Everyone is friendly, so don't be scared to just start talking to them!

Interview with Captain Gryffin, Task Force Bravo XO, Lotus Fleet

Captain Gryffin hails from North West England and joined Lotus Fleet on 29 July 2008

-Favorite Star Trek series and/or movie:

I'd have to say DS9 is my favorite series, and First Contact is my favorite movie.

-Favorite Star Trek Captain:

Sisko by far. I believe he's a solid leader, a tough leader, willing to dish it out when needed.

-Favorite Star Trek ship:

That would have to be either the Nebula or the Akira

-Favorite Star Trek character:

Garak. I simply love all the intrigue and, of course, he's a Cardassian, and Cardassians rule.

-Favorite Star Trek uniforms:

Season 3-7 TNG, not the cheap skintight ones

Which actor would you kick out of Star Trek:

Hmm, that b*** (censored) of an Admiral, Necheyev

What is your position in Lotus Fleet:

I am currently the XO of Task Force Bravo, the second subdivision of its kind in Lotus Fleet. I hold the rank of Captain and my duties range from the monitoring of Lotus Fleet's automated experience allocation system to answering the questions and queries of the members of Task Force Bravo.

What is the story behind your name:

Griffin is my family name. It derives from the Welsh aristocracy and royalty, often seen by the name of Gryff. As somebody who admires the Welsh language, I've since decided to portray myself as Gryffin, not Griffin.

Do you RP in Lotus Fleet:

Nope.  Not on a ship anyway, though I am partial to a bit of Bajoran insults.

Do you have any siblings:

I have a brother and a sister.

What has drawn you to Lotus Fleet:

When I first logged onto STO.com and searched the fleets, I saw a lot of seemingly old and massive fleets, they were all boasting about how long they'd been around and all that. Lotus Fleet caught my attention because of the name, Lotus, but also because, although small (around 10 active members) the fleet maintained a presence on the boards and there was very little in the way of boasting. A good find if you ask me :P

What does Lotus Fleet mean to you:

Friendship. I have gained a great number of friends that I, at one time, would never have thought of becoming friends with. Lotus Fleet opened my eyes to that fact that Star Trek fans can be the very best and the very worst of people, but luckily, Lotus Fleet contains a great number of the first.

Where do you see Lotus Fleet in five years:

Hopefully still active in the Star Trek community as we are now, but also playing a very important role in the gaming community. I very much expect that Star Trek Online will be our primary focus (provides it lasts that long!) but with the next generation of MMO's being released in the coming future, I fully expect Lotus Fleet to further expand into those realms.

Where do you see yourself in five years:

I (hopefully!) shall be a constable in the police in 5 years time and possibly in the process of mastering a foreign language. But only time will tell eh ;)

Biggest fear/phobia:

Aqua phobia, in its true meaning, a fear of drowning, not a fear of water. :P

Your passion in life:

Right now it has to be my martial arts. I have studied Ju jitsu for almost 13 years now and it never gets old or boring. A real passion of mine.

Highlight in your life:

Achieving my Black belt in 2006. A very proud moment for me.

One thing nobody knows about you:

The hair around my crown is vertical and it never flattens down

Describe yourself in 5 words:

Energetic, disciplined, respectful, sympathetic and semi-intelligent :P

Do you have a motto? A quote, to share:

Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero (it means: Seize the day, trusting as little as possible to the future) From Horace

Advice for new members:

Don't be afraid to mingle and interact. Only some of us are blood thirsty vampires, the majority are actually nice people and will take the time to know you if you present the opportunity. :)

Also, coffee is a big thing. You bring coffee, we bring friendship.

To: Lotus Fleet

From: Office of the Fleet Admiral

Subject: State of the Fleet Address

As the Fleet sits on the edge of their chairs waiting for the day that Star Trek On line’s beta servers go live, I am reminded of the fateful day during the first Quarter of 2008, where myself and several other officers received the horrifying news that Star Trek Online (Perpetual) had been cancelled and that the Intellectual property had been transferred to another developer. It was this day that Lotus Fleets own existence had been directly impacted and its continued existence was most certainly in question, it was this day that so many questions, rumors, and fits of outrage came from the community and was yet another blow in a series of setbacks within the star trek community as whole. On this day, myself and the few others that where currently members of Lotus Fleet had to make the difficult decision as to what our next step regarding the Fleets future would be. As it goes without saying we obviously made the correct decision.

Lotus Fleet today stands tall with a rich and very active community of Lotus Fleet Officers and Enlisted personnel that all come from diverse backgrounds and have found a place to serve that to date continues to reinforce the simplest of all concepts that people with infinite personnel experiences, levels of knowledge, varying perspectives on life, can help each other build what I would consider to be a self sustaining community centered around ideals that are common to each of our hearts. It can be argued that together, Star Trek fans can be wildly outspoken, commonly protective, and fanatically dedicated to the franchise as a whole. To date no other science fiction property has spawned such incredible dedication from its fans that by their actions alone they sparked a historical change that both complements our existence with the one represented in the fictional future that we all love but also proves that together we can cause change within each of our lives. For those of you who have family that allow you to share in these experiences, and that through Star Trek you enjoy the greatest remembrance of your life where you could share in that enjoyment and for those of you who live your life afraid to admit that you love Star Trek, please know that you are among friends and those who truly relate and understand your what it means to be YOU.In both cases Lotus Fleet will help to bring families closer and give individuals as sense of acceptance.

Today nearly 2 years after Lotus Fleets founding our membership base has allowed Lotus Fleet to evolve beyond what most would consider being the “standard”. While along the way we have made our own share of mistakes, but as with any good group of dedicated people we have learned from those mistakes and endeavored to not repeat them again As a Fleet we have endeavored to invest significant amounts of time and money to ensure that Lotus Fleet continues to offer an experience that is above and beyond the standard. Over the next couple of months we will be launching several new products that will enhance our own community as well as continue to engage and immerse our members into the Lotus Fleet universe. Carrying on with this tradition we recently launched Lotus Fleets own Command School. Command School is only available to Lotus Fleet members. With that said Command School has been developed to be less about Star Trek and more about what it takes to be a good leader as well as what it takes to start and run a sustainable guild. Through this purpose we will work to train future leaders of Lotus Fleet and hopefully help by equipping those individuals with skills and knowledge so that one day when they decide to leave Lotus Fleet, that they will have the confidence and knowledge in building their own Guild.

Today I stand before the vast and growing numbers of Lotus Fleet and share with each of you that Lotus Fleet continues to enjoy a state in which we remain strong and stable and with the continued assistance of not only My Fleet Officers but each and every member of Lotus Fleet we will remain as strong tomorrow as we are today, however I challenge each and every one of Lotus Fleets members to not become complacent in your roles, to not entertain the idea that we have reached the pinnacle of our success but rather have only begun to see the beginning of what will eventually be a enormously successful guild that no other gaming community has witnessed. Today I stand before you asking you to help me, help Lotus Fleet, and help Star Trek Online become our generations version of Star Trek Canon, Just as TV and the Original Series was our Parents Star Trek, we are the generation that demands more, expects the best, and strives for a better tomorrow.

On one final note I would like to welcome and thank all of Lotus Fleets current and future friends and Allies and speak from the heart that we appreciate all of the support and interest that you have shown in developing a sustainable relationship with us. As we move into Star Trek Online together I look forward to the day in which Federations Starships from all the Fleets can fight together and overcome any and all adversaries that Cryptic throws at us. And to our Klingon enemies….it has been years since we have fought side by side on the field of battle, the blood of the Federation and Klingon Empire has run deep into the waters near battle fields where warriors have fallen….and they are remembered for there honor…..however to do battle with an adversary that you have shared a glass of Blood Wine with in celebration great battles is just as Honorable and for this I promise you that when STO Launches you will receive no less of that Honor from Lotus Fleet as we hasten your journey to Sto-vo-kor. Interview with Commander Klein, Professor of Science, Lotus Fleet Academy

Where are you from:

Fairfax, Virginia.

When did you join Lotus Fleet:

29 January 2009

Favorite Star Trek series and/or movie:

I have to say, after watching a bunch of the series, it would be voyager. It’s the only show that really showed true exploration and that's what I love most about star trek... exploration!  Movie.. Hmm.. I really liked first contact, but then who didn't!? =D

Favorite Star Trek Captain:

I don't know why, but my absolute favorite is Capt. Sulu. Just because of the few times he was ever seen as a captain, he kinda stood out to me, what with his drinking tea and telling Tuvok off so he can go save his friends.

Favorite Star Trek ship:

This is a hard one, you mean just all time federation ship? Cuz I really love the Nova class ships. A pure exploration science vessel. I have that ship everyone, my Skype pic, background on my computer... exploration!

Favorite Star Trek character:

Data. All time favorite. I just like how he has no emotion to show. Back in grade school, I tried to have no emotion like data. The only good thing it did for me was good posture lol.

Favorite Star Trek uniforms:

I think they're called the Nemesis uniforms, man... Those just look awesome with all their blackness and department color undershirts. Those just looked real civilized to me =)

Which actor would you kick out of Star Trek:

I don't think I’d kick anyone out, I liked everybody! Yes, even Wesley Crusher.  Oh! I know!  The lady who played Dr. Pulaski... omg I really hated that women. She was such a... y'know. =/

What is the story behind your name:

When it comes to role playing, like for lotus fleet or STO, what better character to play than yourself!

Give us your opinion of the Chain of Command in Lotus Fleet:

It’s awesome and probably the thing that holds this site/members together. You go to other sites or forums and it’s all over the place. And because a lot of us are current or ex-military, we function better than way.

How do you spend your time within the Fleet:

I am a commander, and as of this interview I was just appointed professor of science, so my duties *will* include going over current lessons, making up new ones... I’m sure there's other stuff but it’s my first day!

I spend it mostly in the shout box. Since I’m at work all day and on the computer, I’ll just sit in there talking to people.

I am rarely NOT involved with Lotus Fleet. Like I said, I’m on the computer all day and so I am always in the shout box for whoever needs me.  I can't go a day without it! Lol

Is there anything you would like to change in the current structure:

I really can't think of anything. It all seems great the way it is now. If some things were to change, hopefully it would be for the better, which I’m sure it will be =)

Do you have any siblings:

I have one younger sister. We’re only 14 months apart!

Does she share your love for Star Trek:

I wouldn't say love.. Tolerates it more I guess lol. Look, she's a girl, she's not into sci-fi! o_O

What has drawn you to Lotus Fleet:

I was looking at quite a few Star Trek forums, but Lotus Fleet was the best out of all of them.  For organization, both in command and look of the site. What drew me most was my very own diploma from the Academy!

What does Lotus Fleet mean to you:

Good lessons, good times... good friends. I don't know how to answer that one lol. When I think of Lotus Fleet, I think of a great place where people from all over the world can come together and share their love for a better future. Corny enough for ya? =P  It’s just, I love how I can discuss Trek with so many other fans =)

Where do you see Lotus Fleet in five years:

Five years.. That’s a long time. Lotus fleet will be around by then I would imagine lol. Especially when STO comes out, we'll all be playing for a while!

Where do you see yourself in five years:

Hopefully graduated from college with my science degree in astronomy! Oh, and still playing STO with my friends from Lotus Fleet.

Biggest fear/phobia:

Sock puppets...  I’m afraid of sock puppets o_O

Your passion in life:

Ok, my passion is Star Trek, I guess lol and I really love drawing, but I can't draw realistic. I can only draw cartoony things, but I like it =D

Highlight in your life:

I guess it would be when I moved out of my parent house and I was finally on my own! I can do anything I want! bwahahaha! ...and then I met my girlfriend..    ._.

One thing nobody knows about you:

Well... a lot of people don't know that... the twins, really aren’t twins... it’s just me...  The twins were just created as a part of my RPing for the site. We were supposed to just make NPCs to role play with... I went a little too far with mine.

Describe yourself in 5 words:

Funny, weird, hungry, friendly! And happy…

Do you have a motto? A quote, to share:

I’m not racist, I hate everyone equally.

Advice for new members:

Please join us in the shout box and make yourself known!  I always need people to talk to lol!  Oh and... Exploration!

Interview with Lieutenant JG A.Pagliaro, Fleet Executive Adjutant General, Lotus Fleet

Where are you from:

Beacon, NY joined 13 July 2009

Favorite Star Trek series and/or movie:

Favorite Series would be Voyager. This is the series that I first watched and is what got me into star trek. Favorite movie would have to be Wrath of Khan.

Favorite Star Trek Captain:

Favorite Capitan is obviously Janeway. The stuff that she did as captain out in the middle of nowhere just amazed me.

Favorite Star Trek ship:

Hmm that’s a tough one ... I'm going to have to go with a Borg Cube, if only because it’s a flying cube of death!

Favorite Star Trek character:

Hmm another toughie .... I'm going to have to go with the Doctor. The way that he was able to gain his own identity and develop his character threw out the series was beyond anything any other character did in my opinion.

Favorite Star Trek uniforms:

Honestly, I don't have a favorite, mainly because I never really paid attention to them.

Which actor would you kick out of Star Trek:

Umm ... Shatner cause he acted so badly? .... Just kidding ... I absolutely hate Wesley Crusher and would like to leave him on some random planet that is made of glass shards.

What is the story behind your name:

It’s my name. That's about it.

Give us your opinion of the Chain of Command in Lotus Fleet:

It’s awesome and probably the best representation of actually being in Starfleet outside of actually being in Starfleet (if it existed.)

What is your position in Lotus Fleet:

My official Title is Fleet Executive Adjutant General (EAG). Mouthful I know right? The duties it entails is looking over all of the job applications and forwarding them to the appropriate Admiral for review (if needed). Also, I am responsible for keeping all of the open job listing postings up to date. My current rank is Lieutenant Junior Grade.

How do you spend your time within the Fleet:

Right now all I do is attend as many meetings as I can and troll the forums. This will change however once I am set up on the forums to do my job.

Is there anything you would like to change in the current structure:

Not that I can think of at this point in time.

Do you have any siblings:

One brother and one sister. Both are younger than I.

What has drawn you to Lotus Fleet:

Originally I was drawn in by the Academy system. I was lured to stay due to the outstanding community that is Lotus Fleet.

What does Lotus Fleet mean to you:

Hmm .... A fleet made out of Lotuses?   Actually, great community and rich passion towards Star Trek.

Where do you see Lotus Fleet in five years:

Kicking a$$ and taking names as one of the premier fleets in ST:O.

Where do you see yourself in five years:

Sitting at a desk somewhere doing the accounting work for some big company. (And possibly still playing MMOs).

Biggest fear/phobia:

Hmm ... not really sure that I have one. I tend not to think about those kind of things.

Your passion in life:

Don't really think anything that I do can be qualified as a passion. I just tend to wing it and see where it takes me.

Highlight in your life:

Winning an exclusive scholarship to my dream college. (Rensselear Polytechnic Institute)

One thing nobody knows about you:

Well if I told you that, then somebody would know it and it wouldn't be secret anymore ;p umm I tend to just let most of myself hang out there, but I haven’t really been a part of the Fleet long enough for you guys to get to know me yet, so I'll go with I'm a huge MJ fan.

Describe yourself in 5 words:

Twisted evil minded crazy person ;p

Do you have a motto? A quote, to share:

All your bases are belong to us

Advice for new members:

Open up, get to know the fleet and we'll get to know you. Watch out for K'Rrauw cause he's a crazy kitty.

Interview with Commander Nimue Aline, Associate Dean of Academics, Lotus Fleet

Where are you from:

Zagreb, Croatia. Zagreb is Capitol of Croatia.

When did you join Lotus Fleet:

13th January 2009

Favorite Star Trek series and/or movie:

DS9 and The Voyage Home.  DS9 because it's darker, more serious than any other show, and Voyage Home - because of whales, hehe, no - because of its ecology oriented story. Future Earth is clean and protected - but this story is warning us on the fact that we may wait too long with protection, and will have very little to protect if we don't start today.

Favorite Star Trek Captain:

Sisko, oh I love him despite his shortcomings. He have high standards but he don't mind compromising them if need occur to protect what he care for.

Favorite Star Trek ship:

I love POWER, Prometheus and Defiant!

Favorite Star Trek character:

I like Janeway, tough chick. I respect her!

Favorite Star Trek uniforms:

From motion Picture...  they look most like uniforms; later pajamas are just...kinky! Wait; let me find it...  http://www.krillmeed.com/motionpicuniforms.html

Which actor/character would you kick out of Star Trek:

LOL, actor Shatner, character... is Kai Winn and Seska! Oh, I hate those last two!

What is the story behind your name:

She was an elven fighter/thief/mage character I played in AD&D long ago. Nimue is a Lady of the Lake. And Aline is something a friend spitted when I said she's going to be Nimue.  It fitted together and I used it back then and kept it.

Give us your opinion of the Chain of Command in Lotus Fleet:

Oh, the best I've encountered till now. Give people the right to make decisions on their own, but at the same time keep it as command should be, strong. Problems may occur when people who are not used to make decisions, have too much leeway.

When lot of wrong decisions is made, members tend to leave the group. The same when just one person is trained to make decisions, if that one leaves everything may break apart. I've seen both cases, may even suffered from both.

What is your position in the Fleet:

I'm Associate Dean of Academics - sounds glamorous, ha? My primary job is to track students ready to graduate and ensure they filled all the requirements. But I'm also the first person for all cadets to come and bring their gripes if something goes wrong or needs help with anything.

How do you spend your time within the Fleet:

I love talking to people and do it a lot; you can find me quite often in a forum chat. I love writing and beside simming on USS Sapentia, I'm filling my previous job in Lotus Fleet as Professor of Simulations.(This post is recently filled. SW) And as Associate Dean my job is to check grades of all fourth year Cadets to see they passed all required courses with acceptable grades, and when they request graduation to calculate their grade. The most enjoyable task - to congratulate them when they graduate!

Do you RP in the Fleet:

OK, despite being Science graduate, I play Nimue as engineering officer aboard USS Sapentia. It happened because when I graduated, USS Tempest was just being launched and they needed an Engineer, so I took it...

Is there anything you would like to change in the current structure:

No! People are where they belong with their knowledge and ability. They are great!

Do you have any siblings:

I have a brother, younger - but only by age. He's the serious one, but is also more the gentle, artistic type.  My father tends to say that Mother Nature had great fun with his family.

Do they share your interest in Star Trek:

Oh yes. My mother is a big Sci-Fi fan, and we all love Star Trek! Father is more the Fantasy type.

What has drawn you to Lotus Fleet:

Academy! I wanted to try it and loved everything about it. And a friend...  It's a Top Secret. But I'm glad I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

What does Lotus Fleet mean to you:

Community.  Lotus Fleet is not just ST: O. We're a community. If ST: O fails, we'll continue toward next ST - community game, get ready and be the best group/fleet/guild there. A place to hang out and have fun with people who think and feel as I do!

Where do you see Lotus Fleet in five years
:

I don't think there's anything more I can say that already was not told - I believe we'll be strong and respected Fleet not just in ST: O but fandom itself. We have a base to be proud of! We have people willing and capable to give their best for good of the group.

Where do you see yourself in five years:

Hopefully married! Maybe another child, I hope so...  I believe in love... it can happen even to us older people... ;)  And yes - I'll be around, count on me!

Biggest fear/phobia:

Oh I'm ashamed...  moths.  When I was very little a huge one decided to die on my face.  He was there bigger part of the night.

Your passion in life:

Everything - that's me, I'm passionate, and think that anything worth doing is worth doing right and with passion. I strive for the best; I may stumble on the way, but pick myself up and move on!

Highlight in your life:

My son!

One thing nobody knows about you:

I'm a good dancer (ballroom).

Describe yourself in 5 words:

*chuckle* passionate, dreamer, loyal, fair/just, consistent (oh even when it's not so good - I'll go to the end to prove my point if believe I'm right and that tend to get me in trouble quite often!)

Do you have a role model:

My mother. She's huge woman. Another similar to her is Margaret Thatcher.  I maybe have her strength, but am not nearly as cool as she is, as calm and organized. My passion tends to mess things up.

Do you have a motto? A quote, to share:

"Move on!"  Stagnation is bad; if I'm bored I'll leave, abandon whatever it is that bore me. I need challenge! Give me a challenge and I'll meet it with joy!

Advice for new members:

Don't be afraid to try!  If you think you can do something well enough, try!

Seems a shame to break such a chain of interviews, and hopefully I wont get cookie privlidges revoked for doing so :D

I'm Ellif,  a newer member of Lotus Fleet, who took a chance on signing up after working through the academy and browsing the forums and shoutbox. Gotta say while larger groups especially so well organised can seem a little off putting when you glance in, i'm glad I took that chance. It's great fun, easy going and there's only Storm who's scary

You're right, Ellif....Storm can be scary at times.

My ev idence is the LF Shoutbox. If you sit there and read, she is the consumate disciplinarian. Enforcing rules and standards to the highest degree. Be respectful and always follow orders....you will be fine.
