  i really dont see why anyone would want to play the borg, their function is simple asimilate over and over again. They dont research they assimilate, they dont mine resources they assimilate already built structures into their ships or build new ones with it. They dont talk to anyone, or trade or much of anything else. As a faction, it would be the most boringly repetitive to play.

  The dominion on the otherhand could be interesting to play, patroling ones territory and making sure everyone in the dominion tows the line, probably there would be more missions involving spy like infiltration and sabotage missions than not.

I think those who want to play Borg want to be rogue ones, but aren't those few and far between?  I can only think of one group that was with Hugh and wanted to be seperate entities yet still be Borg ...

But I agree, they just don't seem to be a species that would work well in a player MMO experience.

The Borg, the Q Continuum, and the Organians (as a small sampling of overpowered or difficult to implement groups) will probably never be playable, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if GMs or the devs showed up as Q, or if the Borg were a Scourge-like NPC force to be set on people, much like WoW did for Wrath's launch...

True, but they do have great power and a history of interfering in other's affairs. They could have a passive role by making 'borders' within our galaxy that we cannot breach (like Q did way back when) that they could build to keep us 'contained', thus explaining why we couldn't truly explore the whole galaxy. =)

OK Here is another suggestion - the ISC (Intersteller Condordium) - we had a war with them in one of the SFC games

  I suppose that could be a possibility, but if I were to pick an SFC species as a threat, I would pick the Mirak ( the Kzinti replacement ), with a little updating of their tech, coupled with their rep as cannibals, they would make an excellent and horrific opponent.

  Though the ISC, would'nt be a bad choice either.
