I don't know. Setting Star Wars Galaxies in the middle of an established timeline was one of it's greatest failings. I won't get started on that abortion...
But I like the idea of setting it in the future's future. You have a lot more rope to play with, although it's still just as easy to hang yourself. If they have a good set of story writers, you can pratically write anything or anyplace out of the "now."
Although, truth be told, I am nervous about the quality of the writing staff after reading the timeline updates.
But then again, I felt the same way after having the plots of some of the Star Trek expanded universe books explained to me. But when I read the books they were mostly good...mostly. I hated what they did to Trill. Making them related to those annoying brain parasites from the Next Gen. That is, to date, the only episode that I turn off when I see it on. I hate that episode and hate what they did to the Trill.
OK well...I'm done with that little conversation with myself. ;)
