Concrete proof that Cryptic Studios is Developing Star Trek Online!

As posted by Zach in the front page, a timer has appeared on the cryptic website which seems to be counting down to star trek online.

Perpetual stated at the time that devlopment of Star Trek Online had been passed to another bay area developer, however since that time, we have not seen or heard anything about our beloved MMORPG.

Speculation has been arife about who could possibly have the development rights to Star Trek Online - with some people suggesting Bethesda or "Blissovision" - however the hot favorite until now has been Cryptic Studios.

Well, it appears that we may well be on the road to getting an answer of sorts to the question - "Are Cryptic Studios Developing Star Trek Online" with the appearence on the Cryptic Studios homepage, of a mysterious countdown timer, with an unmistakeably Sci-Fi Esque background picture - which some people have speculated is very similar to some of the early concept art for STO from Perpetual.


UPDATE: Thanks to some help from Demosthenes, former owner of the now shut down STOnet, we are now able to confirm that the image used on the Cryptic Timer is from Perpetual Entertainments Concept Art for Star Trek Online.

It sure does look like it. The question is, is it 45 days until they announce it? or are they developing and its 45 days until release/public beta?

i am pretty sure it would be to annouce it and not for beta/release as that is alot of work to do of which they couldent possibly do in a few months

Good news... I kinda knew Cryptic was on this when they went on a massive hiring spree a couple months ago... it was obvious they were starting a new MMO, with rumors of this floating around so hard, and no other Bay Area developers hiring a full MMO Staff, it kinda speaks for itself.

i knew i had seen that picture somwhere before :D

well now it is pretty obvious who has STO and i for one am very happy about it  :D Cryptic are more than capable and competant to create it

YES, STO is still alive.  I am guessing 45 days count down untill the confirm to the public that they're working on the project.  I'd hope if they picked up most of the past PE devs that they'd make fast progress, part of the progress pends how much tools, art and PE work was allowed to come with them.  2009 for a beta is my speculations.  Countdown Lottery  ????

Ha! That's very good news :) Now I do hope that they will be involved with the fanbase as well as P2 was, and perhaps we can smuggle in some ships. I'm excited! :D

I believe the imagewas first shown on MMORPG.com, although I'm not sure.  Anyhow, here it is in a large format at JeuxOnline.info.
