Not to put a dampener on t, but don't put much stock in Erik's statements. the best timetable for this game is 18 months if, and only if they continue where PE leftoff. however, I doubt they will, since they already know the public feedback of that approach. that being said, they will start to build the core game from scratch, which in the magnitude of this games scale and complxities nd knowing how long it took them to produce COH, figure no less than 2.5-3.5 years tocompletion for this project if theya re indeed going ahead with it.

Actually my fear is that any new developer WILL pick up where PE left off, rather than listen to the community and develop what we all really want to play. Why? Because with this much failure already surrounding STO, the new Devs are only going to focus on 2 things. Turnaround and profit. Starting from scratch means they miss the turnaround goal, and the community waits longer, which then opens them up to losses on the profit side because of other MMOs that are out now as well as will be in the future.

So best business strategy dictates, pick up the scrambled eggs that are the current state of STO, and serve the omlet, regardless how many eggshells are mixed in, then ask the forgiveness of the community once they are already taking our money for the breakfast they serve.

Well I knew is it was Cryptic earlier but the timer new is great. I might be going to the con in vegas later this year. I hope there will be a diplay or something there. I personally liked most of what PE had planned: I hope they polish it alot and do it right but continuing where PE left off I don't think would be such a bad thing. As for a time table if they somehow obtained the source code 6 months, if not 18 months using the graphics and other parts obtained from PE and three years to completely remake the game.

Hmmm, interesting though i don't think the countdown is real proof that it is what anyone thinks it is. Someone said that the news coming out of CBS in regards to all the new licensing of items though there is no mention of any games and one would think they would say something. Though again perhaps Cryptic isn't ready to say anything would be reason enough and we don't know how CBS is going to do things as we aren't that familiar with there style of things. Either way, i hope it is back on and if its Cryptic all the power to them and i hope they start from the ground up as i think the direction in which PE was going wasn't a good one and i hope they didn't keep anyone at the management level on from PE. As well Bethsoft has a few titles in the pipeline though they aren't going to say anything until after Fallout3 is released and they will be outsourcing those games of course but from what ive been told by Bethsoft they will no longer deal with Fansites dedicated to StarTrek after what happened with Legacy.

Well, I for one welcome our speculation overlords and praise their speculative musings.  I cannot raise much enthusiasm for this yet, until further news comes out in the next 45 days to either confirm this is STO or just something more for Champions Online.

But.....

If this is a major news announcement for STO, then LET THE PARTY BEGIN AGAIN!!!!!  :muaha: :) :@

Otherwise, I will reserve my energies till more is known.  I was so let down when STO crashed and burned, holding out hope against hope until the very end.  I even kept on logging into my STO.net account until they shut down the site, but now with the possible news of STO's back in development I think that I can dare to feel anything associated with this game again.  Let us all hope that this is the news we've all been waiting for.

I have to agree with you, while it might not be concrete lets hope that we get some real news on STO as the trek community needs to this to become what it once was and much better.

I concur with the time estimates.  Alot will hinge on what if any material transport from PE devs to Cryptic.

The community could use something like IMVU to make a meeting place until STO is fully functional, its a funny little 3d IM program and theres a few groups that meet there, one I am in is compliance with Star Trek International with access to Star Fleet Academy, SF Marines and a few others, plus a few that are just trekies having fun.  email me if you're interested in another IM program with ST accessories.

As i mentioned before in the shoutbox, if you play around with the sourcecode from their website, and cut/paste some links together, you can reacht the page that is mentioned for STO to be... you get errors telling you that this page does not exsist, BUT !!!!!

You also get a message on your screen (using Firefox) saying: "Launchtime!!"

hmmm, makes you kinda wonder doesn't it  ^_^

I'm gonna start on the dutch translations for st-online now ;)

And thanks Saravok for putting a temp on the frontpage ;) your the best!

I would like to throw something into peoples consideration here.

Lets consider that Cryptic is not a startup company like Perpetual Entertainment was. This means that they have the ability and resources to put together a team and move on something VERY quickly. Just look at how fast they have been moving with Champions.

Secondly - Lets consider that we only heard PUBLICALLY that the game had been moved to a new developer in Feburary. This means that privatley, it could have occured in December, Janurary or earlier.

Hailing Frequency was in close and regular contact with Perpetual Entertainment right up until early December 2007 - then all of a sudden, Daron Stinnett dried up, Chris Lainus, and all of our other contacts - they just stopped talking. You will hear a similar story from the former staff of STOnet.

I would have to say based on the available information that I have, that Cryptic have probably had STO since December.

The timer gives them another 7 weeks - thats practically 2 months - so by the time they announce anything, they will have had STO for a good 7 or 8 months.

Thirdly - Lets assume they can use their existing Champions Ground Engine as a base for the ground side of STO - This gives them another head start as they dont have to 'censored' around making an engine.

They COULD already be a significant way into development. - I am not saying they are - but i am saying they could be!.

By the way - Welcome Back Acidrain!
