I would say that Perpetual was a casulty of its own bad planning - What i mean, is that i would have had a "reserve" publisher lined up just in case anything ever happend to the main one.

NCSoft Restructuring is just a case of "'censored' happens" - Companys do that. Yeh, they are partly to blame, but like i said, i would have had a reserve.

I highly doubt that they were anywhere near a Beta state with the game. Sorry, but I don't buy it. Regardless of the publisher status, the game was nowhere near Beta.  PE had poor management.  This poor management combined with funding problems is why they failed.  Three years without much progress is another reason for the funding problems.

Unless my sources are way off, and I can't believe that they are, it is unlikely that the code was in any state even approaching a Beta.  Statements from Stinnett himself only months prior to the demise of PE indicated that they were just ending pre-production and starting full developement.

I dont really like NCSoft either, tried their game Tabula Rasa, it blew something fierce..

Maybe I'm just a fickle gamer, I still play WoW, but I'm looking for a game that can potentionally rival WoW in community numbers, content, and the same, if not more, ammount of fun you can have playing it. STO might even bring in a better community, I'm getting sick of WoW's that's for sure..

thats true. i dont know much about the business practices of publishers...but i guess they back out a lot?

and about the beta: even if they werent near beta, it would still be closer than what we are at now.

To back Zach up, I've had independent confirmations of this info, too. I can talk to my sources, and see if any of them would be willing to come forward to verify it, but I doubt they can yet because of the IP still not being confirmed with a new developer. Once things settle down a bit, it might be easier to get some people to step forward, but some of this info may simply remain not able to be confirmed for a long time.

I have made a couple of small updates to this story. Some new information was just e-mailed to me by a reliable source - There may be more to come.

With all due respect to Hailing Frequency, but this is hardly a detailed and factual news story.  To say that we'd all be signing up for a pubic Beta if NCSoft had not pulled out is really speculation.  There is no evidence of anything you are saying.  Sure, NCSoft may very well have been involved, but to say that their departure is the main reason STO went tits up is not a fact.

Show us some evidence as to the state of the game code at the time of PE's demise.   If a new developer is taking over and it is to be announced, it will be curious to see if they are truly going to be using any of the code that PE created.  Until there is some type of offical announcement that can be reasonably confirmed it is inappropriate for you to say that you have the "truth" behind P2 Entertainment's STO closure.  Facts please.

Finn,

As has been stated, both Zach and I have asked sources to come forward and confirm the story. None of them have been willing to, at this time. It is our hope that by publishing this story, we can encourage some of them to confirm it. Stay tuned, as I assure you this is a developing story.

Juliano, can it. Finnigan is absolutely right. The only "confirmation" you fools have is your own wild imaginations. This game was about as close to being finished as Risa is to El'Aurian space.

When you're ready to post actual news, go ahead. For now, you should go back and pout about how your little game has been destroyed. Cry little, boy. Your tears are music to me!

Speaking of which, why are these damn forums still open? Shouldn't they have been deleted by now?
