  • Howdy, folks!
We had our fingers crossed today and the wind seems to be blowing this direction. Reverb Communications on behalf of Cryptic Studios have been nice enough to authorize an interview with our wonderful new community leader, Awen aka Nicole Hamlett.

As we have done in the past - Hailing Frequency is opening up the floor to all of our fellow trek gamers to give you all a chance to send in questions to ask her.

We need a good mix of 'let's get to know Awen' questions as well as some deeper, more complex ones.

All submitted questions will be sent to Reverb Communications and they will decide which ones ultimately get used.

Merry Christmas All

Well here goes a few I guess:

     1) Can you tell us a little about yourself and how your ( I'm Assuming) interest in star trek got you to where you are now?

     2) Is there anything new you could tell us about STO that we will be hearing about soon?

     3) What were some of the jobs you worked prior to your current position?

     4) Can you give us an idea of the current state of progress on STO at this time?  ( I realize the focus is on champions right now, and with the holidays coming I really dont expect much of an answer to this ).

With the announcement that user created aliens will be used to populate game-generated worlds and civilizations, I am curious as to how much of that user's creation will be utilized. Will the new species have user-specified customs or behaviors as a racial norm? For example, if I were to create a captain from a herbivorous race of easily spooked swamp-dwelling people who show reverence and care to things by decorating them with jewelry...how much of that is carried over to the resulting explorable race, if any of it?

In the same category of question, how much user-created content / user-contribution can we expect within STO? I'm excited about this aspect, as it adds the potential for unsurpassed longevity in an MMO.

Again in the same light, will there be a "Spotlight on" segment on the STO website for interesting planets, locations, captains, crews, etc?

Well then, let's cut to the chase!
Given the recent purchase of Cryptic Studios by Infogrames/Atari, do you foresee an increase in staffing of developers/artists/writers on Cryptics' MMO game's Champions Online and Star Trek Online?

An additional question:

Regarding the customization capabilities of the User Interface in game, will there be a WoW-style user-created addons feature within STO? (If this needs clarification, things like DPS meters, guild events coordination, additional fonts, etc. ...the sort of stuff you'd see on Curse for example.)

Hello Awen!

I just wanted to welcome you to the community.  I guess all of our fears can be put to bed as soon as we all know that STO is still on track.

Also, can you tell us something about STO that will truely blow our minds? Maybe go into some more detail on how STO will not be a "level" based game?

thanks!

question: What steps do you take or what system is in place to sometimes filter the extreme (and sometimes unhealthy) fanaticism of the Star Trek Online community, and still be able to gauge well thought out suggestions for gameplay, structure, and overall direction for the game itself?

Hi,

My question is about the universe that the game will take place in.

In recent years, agter Gene Roddeberry died, Paramount have painted a very dark future for humanity.
Something we have a lot of on earth today.
1. Will you continue down this dark path making us loose all hope for the future or will you make the game a little brighter then what Berman and Braga thought were what we wanted?
2. Will there be room to play out a kind of game that would more breath of an atmosphere of the original series or the next genereation instead of the depressing DS9, Voyager and Enterprise series?
3. If you paint a dark future, will there be a realistic chance for those that are not war oriented to actually not only survive but even thrive in this game?
4. Will surviving by only doing exploring be at all possible, without being armed up to your teeth?

I'm in agreement with where your questions are coming from Xon.

Another one that needs to be asked (I lurk lots...)

"DC Fontana, Rick Sternbach, and David Gerrold have gone on record to state they'd like to work on Star Trek Online. Is there a real chance of bringing them on?"
