STL Tools 2 comes with Trek Battles 3. I am trying to remember how I used to use STL Tools 1 a year ago to be able to use ships I want to battle (not what the AI picks). I can not remember and I have tried STLT2 (acronyms for everything, right) with TB3 but could not get it to work.
I emailed gdata with this info:

Gdata, hello. I went ahead and installed TB3 and its update to try and
use STL Tools. A few things arise.
First, I can not seem to remember how to get it to work. I click
randomize (nice feature, glad you added it [from my suggestion last
year?]) but where do I go from that point? Clicking the green arrow on
the bottom of the program results in nothing happening (STL Tools is
pointing to the right directory). So, I go to the MAIN SETTINGS tab and
click "launch Legacy" from there, but I have gone through all the menus
in the game to try and find the one that will launch the settings I
picked with Tools.
Then I tried a regular skirmish to see what ships there are. I was
unable to pick any race other than the four default stocks. I could not
pick anyone else.
As well, and only tried Federation so far, the game does not seem to
recognize the textures for the Excelsior class. I get the red bug cubed
icon. Not sure if the copy I installed and just localized to me, or with
the TB3 + update.
Wanted to see what you may say.
Should I be posting all this in one of the boards (not sure which you
check often). I think I still will for others to see.
Thanks.

If someone here could tell me, using TB3 and the STLT2 it comes with (in the extras folder), how to get the game to use the ships I pick, it would be appreciated. I basically tried the randomizer, applied, even saved, but that is it. As you see above, I can not figure how to get the game to load USING the tools.
Any help be great. I figure to post this and get other opinions about it. Not sure if this is common or just a "me" thing.
Bless.
EDITED to add game in title.
